Definition of the visibility options
In Polaris, the visibility of articles (events, newsletters, news, projects, documents, photo galleries, etc.) can be restricted to various levels.
The visibility settings are generally found at the bottom of the "General" tab and include a maximum of three sections:
Who can see the content?
Display in own unit
Display in related units (dependent on the choice in the section "Who can see the content?")
Who can see the content?
The checkbox "Content is published" generally determines whether the content is visible or not. By default, when duplicating or creating new content, the visibility (“Content is published”) is disabled. The additional details specify the manner of visibility (for whom, where, ...).

Promote in carousel on entry page: This option displays the content in the carousel of the entry page. In the carousel, various types of content are presented across different categories (Calendar, Letters, News, Photo galleries, …). Learn more about the differences between slider and carousel.
NOTE
Promotion in the slider and carousel are mutually exclusive. Only one can be active at the same time. To switch between these two options, you must first disable the currently selected option before you can activate the other one.
Promote from – to: Here you can specify the promotion period for both options (it always pertains to the specific option (1 or 2) that has been selected). When an option is activated, default values are loaded, which can be modified as needed.
Promote as top-article in right column on entry page: Each homepage features a dedicated section on the right side for unique content. This option can be selected in addition to the display in the slider and carousel. Only one article can be promoted as top-article. If you promote another article, the previous one is no longer promoted. The promotion period does not apply for the top-article.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR EVENTS
Please ensure that you always enable the “See event of other clubs” (1) for statutory events. This guarantees that all members at the district and multi-district levels can view all events from the underlying organizations in the list view. This allows members to discover and attend meetings of other organizations (e.g., clubs).
But please DO NOT enable the promotion of your club internal or periodic events in carousel or in the right column of other units. Such promotion is reserved to events with extra ordinary importance for the entire community.
Important differences between slider and carousel
Slider
Only events and news of your own club can appear in the slider.
The date of the event or news article determines the order. The article whose date is the closest appears first. By default it is chronologically ascending from left to right, but can be set to be chronologically descending from left to right by activating the appropriate club parameter: Club parameters > Other parameters > Defaults > "Slider on frontpage in reverse chronological order"
The relevant selection and the selected period from – to are decisive for the display in the slider.
Carousel
In the carousel, you can display events, letters from the president or governor, newsletters, news, projects, and various articles from your club, metro-club, district, or Multi-District.
Carousel provides the option to filter the view based on the category of the article.
The article's date establishes the sequence. It progresses chronologically from left to right. The oldest article appears first. The sequence cannot be modified, because articles form various units may appear here.
The relevant selection and the selected period from – to are decisive for the display in the carousel.
Choices for the display
If the display in the slider is activated, the following settings are available:
Slider background transparency: the transparency of the text block is set to 50% by default, but can be adjusted to take into account the brightness of the image behind the text block
Visible texts in slider: the choice of which text(s) to display:
Title and content
Title only
Content only
No text visible

Best practices
Here are some guidelines for the publication and promotion of your content in sliders and carousels.
General rules
Consider using a slider for the key topics in the upcoming period, while utilizing the carousel for the less significant ones in the distant future.
Do not display more than five topics in the slider and no more than 15 in the carousel simultaneously. A few topics may be featured in the carousel by higher organizational tiers such as district or multi-district. You can disable them in the "Club life > Content moderation" section.
Always use an image for subjects in the slider and, if feasible, also in the carousel. It enhances the overall appearance significantly!
Promotion in own unit
"Promote from" is designated for the present time when you generate the content. Avoid advertising upcoming events more than 1-3 months prior to their commencement.
Always configure the "Promote to" setting to the conclusion date of an upcoming event or the day following it.
Set the "Promote to" date for past promotions to no more than three months after the promotion's completion.
Display in related unit
Do not showcase content that pertains exclusively to your own club to the district or Multi-District. Think about what might be engaging for others and the reasons behind it.
Do not display regular (statutory) meetings to other units in carousel or in the right column > Activate the checkboxes for district or Multi-District to add your event to the list of events visible in the tab Calendar > See events (or news, or projects ...) from other clubs.
Use the same or shorter promotion periods as those for your own unit.
Set the visibility to a minimum of "All members (own district)" but refrain from selecting "Public". Please observe the data protection regulations (GDPR)!
